Trap and Skeet Shooting Tips

Every shotgun shooter wants to be the best shooter, but sometimes that can be easier said than done. Making mistakes on the shooting range can lead to frustration, and it is something that can be avoided. Proper skill and regular practice will go a long way in making you a better trap and skeet shooter. Here are a couple of tips you can use to become a better trap and skeet shooter.

Safety First

When handling any firearm, it is crucial to make sure you take all the safety precautions into consideration. Always wear eye and hearing protection. Do not load your gun until you are all set to shoot. After shooting, ensure the gun is empty, and the action is open. You must keep the gun’s muzzle pointed down range and never placed on your shoulder pointed behind you.

Practice Makes Perfect

Practice makes perfect, so spend time practicing mounting and swinging an unloaded gun to your face in a mirror. Stand erect and lift the gun up with a concise movement, using both hands evenly as though they were connected together. Make sure to mount the gun from the precise same position every time, and bring it to the same position on your face every time. The gun should be mounted to the face and not your shoulder. Keep practicing these movements and you will find your movement becoming smooth and perfect.

Stand Right

When you are shooting, make sure you place your feet in a way that a line extends from your rear heel to your leading foot points. Your stance should be relatively narrow and not wide. With a narrow stance, you will have a smooth swing and follow through.
